Working Time Directive

Directive 2003/88/EC sets minimum EU rules on working time: an average maximum of 48 hours a week including overtime, 11 consecutive hours of daily rest, a weekly rest period, breaks and at least four weeks of paid annual leave. Some workers can opt out of the 48-hour limit where national law allows.
