Terms of use
The rules for using the European Finance Observatory, in plain words.
Who provides the service
European Finance Observatory, run by Christian Martorana, a private individual.Email: contact@europeanfinanceobservatory.comThese terms are the rules of the service (regulamin) under the Polish Act of 18 July 2002 on providing services by electronic means, and the terms and conditions required by the EU Digital Services Act.
What the service is
The Observatory is a free website about work in European finance. It offers, without an account: news and analysis, a Regulatory calendar of rule changes with their dates, a map of roles and skills, concept definitions, salary figures for one level and city, a take-home pay calculator for one city, the question of the week, a Friday newsletter and phone notifications.
With a free account (a member) you also get full salary ranges for every level and city, city comparisons, your member profile and the option to add your salary anonymously. There is no paid service.
What you need
A device connected to the internet and a current version of a common browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari or Samsung Internet) with JavaScript turned on for forms, sign-in and search. An account, the newsletter and answers to notices also need an email address you can read. Phone notifications need a browser that supports them; on iPhone and iPad the site must first be added to the home screen (iOS 16.4 or later).
What you must not send
You must not send content that is illegal, or that breaks these rules: personal data of other people, confidential or internal information of an employer or a client, harassment, advertising or recruitment spam, recommendations to buy or sell specific securities, party campaigning, or anything unrelated to work and rules in European finance. Do not try to disrupt the site, get around its limits or read data that is not yours.
Starting and ending the service
- Reading the site needs no agreement beyond these terms; you can stop at any time.
- Account: you sign up by entering your email, confirming you are 18 or older, and opening the sign-in link we send. The agreement starts when you first sign in. You can delete your account at any time from your account page; deletion is immediate and ends the agreement.
- Newsletter: you subscribe by entering your email and confirming through the link we send (double opt-in), or by ticking the box when you sign up. You can unsubscribe at any time with the link in every email or from your account page.
- Phone notifications: you turn them on with a button and turn them off with a second button or in your browser settings.
- We may end an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, with a statement of reasons sent to its email.
Moderation
Questions, corrections, Regulatory calendar tips and notices are checked against published moderation rules before anything is used. A text can be allowed, held for review or rejected, for these reasons: personal data, internal employer information, confidential information, harassment, spam or promotion, investment advice, party politics, illegal content, off-topic content, or details that could identify the author. Every hold or rejection comes with a statement of reasons and how to send the text again (DSA Art. 17).
We use an automated tool for the first check: an AI model (Anthropic) pre-screens each text against the rules above. When the tool is unsure or unavailable, the text is held, never published. Decisions on notices of illegal content are always taken by a person.
Anyone can report illegal content on the report page, without an account. We aim to decide on every notice within 7 days and tell the notifier the decision with its reasons, when an email was given.
Complaints
If something does not work as described here, or you disagree with a moderation decision, write to support@europeanfinanceobservatory.com with what happened and the page concerned. We reply within 14 days.
Contact point for authorities and users
The single point of contact under Articles 11 and 12 of the Digital Services Act, for authorities and for users, is support@europeanfinanceobservatory.com. Messages are accepted in English, Italian and Polish. General questions: contact@europeanfinanceobservatory.com.
What the figures are, and are not
- Salary figures are statistics from public sources and anonymous reports, not a wage recommendation, not an offer and not employer data.
- The calculator is a simplified model, not tax advice; verify with a professional.
- Regulatory calendar: general information, not legal advice.
Law that applies
These terms are governed by Polish law. If you are a consumer, this does not take away the protection you have under the mandatory law of the country where you live, and you may also bring a claim before the courts there.
We may update these terms; the date at the top changes, and members are told by email of any change that affects them before it applies.
