Equity

Equity, or a share, is a security representing ownership in a company, with a claim on residual profits and assets after creditors and, usually, voting rights. Shares can pay dividends and are traded on stock exchanges and other venues; corporate actions such as splits, rights issues and dividends change holders' positions.
