Synthetic securitisation

In a synthetic securitisation the loans stay on the lender's balance sheet and only their credit risk is transferred to investors, through a guarantee or a credit derivative; investors earn a premium and absorb losses on an agreed slice. Since 2021 some of these can carry the EU STS label. Banks use it to manage capital.
