Forfaiting

Forfaiting is the purchase, without recourse to the seller, of medium-term trade receivables such as bills of exchange, promissory notes or deferred payment letters of credit, often guaranteed by the buyer's bank. The exporter receives cash at a discount and passes the credit and country risk to the forfaiter. The ICC rules URF 800 can apply.
