Payment versus payment (PvP)

Payment versus payment (PvP) settles both currency legs of a foreign exchange trade at the same time, so that neither party pays without receiving. It removes FX settlement risk, also called Herstatt risk: the risk of paying one currency and not receiving the other. CLS is the main PvP system for major currencies.
