Full profileYour role
A treasury operations analyst supports the treasury of a bank or large company in moving and controlling cash. The role confirms and settles money market, foreign exchange and funding trades, monitors daily cash positions across currencies and nostro accounts, makes sure payments go out before the cut-off times of TARGET2 and other systems, reconciles accounts and supports liquidity reporting. It works between the treasury dealers, payments, settlements and finance.
The analyst starts by building the cash position for the day: balances on nostro accounts in each currency, expected inflows and outflows from settlements, maturing deposits and client payments. A shortfall appears in one currency, so the analyst flags it to the treasury dealers, who arrange an FX swap. Mid-morning the analyst confirms the new deals with counterparties, checks the settlement instructions and releases payments in priority order before the high value payment cut-off. A counterparty fails to pay on a maturing deposit, so the analyst chases it, records the fail and informs credit risk. After lunch the work turns to reconciliations: nostro statements are matched with expected flows and unmatched items are investigated with payments and settlements teams. The analyst then checks data for the liquidity reports used by treasury and finance. The day ends with confirming tomorrow's forecast, updating the open items log and handing over to the team in another time zone.

Cash positioning, deal confirmation and reconciliation are increasingly automated, and machine learning is used to forecast cash flows and intraday liquidity more accurately. Manual position building and matching are shrinking. Instant payments and real-time data increase the pace of treasury work and the value of early warning on shortfalls. Value grows in judgement on liquidity, exception handling and working with dealers and finance. The World Economic Forum Future of Jobs Report 2025 lists analytical thinking and technological literacy among the skills growing fastest.
